EU to investigate Northern Rock rescue plan

An in-depth investigations into the Northern Rock rescue plan was today launched by the European Commission to examine its compatibility with EU state aid rules.
It gives all interested parties the right to comment.
 

 

UKIP adds £25,000 to cost of European Parliament Business

MEPs from the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) added £25,000 to the cost of the European Parliament's business this week by demanding roll-call votes to record every vote held. These votes cost £300 each, bringing the total cost to £25,000.

Commenting on today's decision of the European Commission on state aid for Northern Rock, European Liberal Democrat Leader, Graham Watson MEP, said:
"I welcome the European Commission's swift response to the rescue package for Northern Rock. The fact that it only took eight working days to approve the UK government aid is good news for Northern Rock investors and clients alike and a proof of Brussels concern for what occurred..."
